CAIR-Chicago was recently contacted by a Muslim woman who participated in an interview for a Green Card for Permanent Residency. The woman, who is married to a U.S. citizen, treated rudely by the Immigration Officer, was accused of lying about her marriage despite evidence that the couple had been together for several years, and was ordered to wait for a Stokes interview until the end of 2006.
Upon learning of the incident, CAIR-Chicago filed a complaint with the Department of Homeland Security Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Department (DHS CRCL). DHS CRCL promptly responded to CAIR-Chicago’s complaint and made contact with the woman’s attorney. As a result, the woman’s Stokes interview has been moved up to this month, rather than the end of this year.
