Muslim Woman Photographed by Police without Proper Attire: Charges Against Her Dismissed

CAIR-Chicago Attorney Rima Kapitan represented a Muslim woman who was charged with battery after a dispute with a neighbor. Police then took the woman to the police station, where she was asked to remove her blouse for photographs. Police would not permit her to put her blouse back on and she was photographed with her headscarf and a tank-top. The police also refused to allow her to put her blouse back on while she was detained.

The charge was dropped at a hearing where the woman was represented by Kapitan.

CAIR-Chicago will continue to pursue the issue of the police forcing her to be photographed and detained without proper attire.
