Today, the City Council of Chicago approved a resolution drafted by Alderman Ameya Pawar of the 47th ward that condemns attacks of violence and hate against minority community and helps initiate measures to promote tolerance.
CAIR-Chicago’s Executive Director, Ahmed Rehab, has been appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to serve as an Advisory Council Member of the Office of New Americans (ONA) Advisory Committee.
CAIR-Chicago’s Executive Director, Ahmed Rehab, wants Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy to clarify his position on the NYPD spying program and also to assure Muslims that a spying operation has not been implemented in Chicago.
Members from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), including CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab, met with Chicago’s mayoral candidates at a small conference held at the ICIRR office in the Chicago Loop on Friday, January 7, 2011.
The featured candidates were former U.S. Senator Carol Moseley Braun and City Clerk of Chicago Miguel Del Valle.
“Alsherbini claims that the targeting practice began after Jan. 2009 when Randy Keller became mayor of the village. On Aug. 27, 2009, under the orders of Keller, Alsherbini was served with a notice to appear for proceedings to revoke his business license, according to the suit.”
Mayor Daley presented Zarzour with the 2009 Arab Heritage Month Award for Outstanding Contributions to Chicago’s Arab Community and commended him for his exceptional community service.
“I am truly honored to receive this recognition on behalf of a dignified community from a city I am proud to serve,” said Zarzour.
