Police say they’ve arrested a man who lives near a mosque in north suburban Morton Grove, for firing a pellet rifle at the mosque Friday night while 500 people prayed inside.
Investigators say David Conrad, 51, lives next to the mosque in Morton Grove. They say he fired a pellet rifle at the building while 500 people prayed inside Friday evening and damaged the mosque.
Members of a suburban mosque say someone took several shots with an air rifle last night at the building’s outer wall in Morton Grove.
(CHICAGO, IL, 8/11/12) — The Chicago office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Chicago) said today that two air rifle shots were fired last night at the outer wall of the Muslim Education Center (MEC) mosque in Morton Grove, Ill.

CAIR-Chicago Executive Director Ahmed Rehab delivered the keynote address at the Muslim Education Center’s (MEC) community dinner on Sunday January 16, 2011, which commemorated the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Rehab discussed the civil rights movement and how it has affected the country today, 50 years later.
The MEC Masjid has invited Ahmed Rehab to speak at an event commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. and his “I Have A Dream” speech. The MEC Education Committee invited Rehab to their fourth seminar of a monthly educational series to talk about MLK and what the civil rights movement is today, 50 years later. Rehab’s speech will be followed with a question and answer for further discussion.
“I expect police and federal investigators to thoroughly examine the incident and remain vigilant as there has been a significant rise in these sorts of hateful, Islamophobic incidents across the country,” said Abraham. “We will not let hatemongers spread fear and intimidate Muslims.”
