Sensitivity Training Coordinator, Veronica Zapata, Delivers 4th Cultural Awareness Presentation to Bridgeview Police

veronica_policeCAIR-Chicago’s Sensitivity Training Coordinator, Veronica Zapata, gave a Cultural Awareness presentation to officers from the Bridgeview Police Department on January, 28th. Because of the high number of Muslim constituents in Bridgeview, the Police Department is working to develop more cultural sensitivity by gaining a better understanding of Islam and Muslims. This recent event was Zapata’s the fourth time presenting to Bridgeview police.

Over a dozen officers attended the training and were highly engaged in Zapata’s presentation. She also suggested that the police department implement programs and outreach events at the Mosque Foundation (MF) and Arab American Family Services (AAFS).

After the successful training Zapata said “The officers at the Bridgeview Police Department were very gracious and receptive to the information as always, and I will continue to serve as a resource for them.”

CAIR-Chicago believes more training like this in the community will serve to eliminate racial profiling, hate crimes, and future injustices directed towards Muslims in Chicago and across the country.
