Outreach Coor. Gerald Hankerson Keynotes at Aldridge School

Gerald Hankerson was invited to be the Commencement Speaker for Ira Aldridge Elementary School‘s 8th Grade graduating class on June 18.

Graduating 20 years ago from 8th grade, Hankerson reflected on his personal growth and what it means for the new high school freshmen to consider their youth and promise given current social events, such as the Black Lives Matter movement.

He advised them to be aware that life is both predictable and uncertain. However, this paradox allows them to willingly accept more responsibilty and be mindful of new expectations, that with owning accountability and excelling in their endeavors they can define their own paths and identities despite negative perspectives based on who they are or where they come from.
