WHEATON, Ill. –A fake website that promotes violence using the name of the Islamic Center of Wheaton is under investigation.
The site copies information from the Center’s program about teaching Muslim youths about Islam, Arabic, and memorizing the Quran. But, it tops the page with photos of children carrying ISIS flags and holding automatic weapons.
The owners of the real website have contacted the FBI, and requested a full investigation. They have also asked Wheaton police to step up security around the Center as a precaution.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations in Chicago is calling the fake website “malicious.” It is asking state and national authorities to remove the website, and prosecute those responsible.
