Hoda Katebi Speaks at Welcoming City Ordinance Event

CAIR-Chicago Communications Coordinator Hoda Katebi spoke at the Welcoming City Ordinance amendment community event on Monday, July 18th.

The event brought together several community organizations working on refugee and immigrant issues, including Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Organized Communities Against Deportations, and #TheBluestLie campaign to give testimonials and speeches on their work and why they support the amendment to the Welcoming City Ordinance that will be making the city safer for immigrants and refugees.

Hoda spoke on Angel Malak’s case, and the intersectionality between racism, Islamophobia, anti-immigrant sentiment, and xenophobia both domestically and abroad: “we must understand also that this refugee crisis is the direct and indirect result of America and other countries’ imperialist projects in the Middle East that creates the situation possible not only for hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes in desperation and fear, but also when they do arrive in a country like this they are met with hate and violence.”
