On November 20th, CAIR-Chicago Deputy Director Sufyan Sohel participated in a town hall forum hosted by the Muslim Women’s Alliance. The Forum consisted of two parts: the first was a small group discussion where all participants and speakers shared their feelings, experiences, and reactions following the 2016 Presidential elections. The second was a panel consisting of several amazing community members: Eman Hassaballa Aly, Edmund Arroyo, Dr. Aisha El-Amin, Ubaydullah Evans, Maaria Mozaffar, and CAIR-Chicago’s Sufyan Sohel. The panelists each provided their post-election analysis and offered audience members spiritual, mental, and legal guidance in addressing the various concerns heard by community members.
“I truly appreciate the Muslim Women’s Alliance initiative in bringing together such a great panel to share their thoughts. As someone who is immersed in Civil Rights advocacy and legal representation, it was refreshing to hear from mental health professionals, academics, and religious scholars. We all experienced such a vast array of reactions to the election results and I hope the panel was able to provide some relief, insight, direction, and resources to the many community members who attended.”
